Do you have trouble seeing nearby objects? Is reading a challenge because the words appear blurry? Then you may have hyperopia or farsightedness. The good news is that this condition is not dangerous and can be addressed with a simple prescription or LASIK surgery. We offer both here at Paragon Eye Associates and are ready to give you the care you deserve.
What is Hyperopia?
Hyperopia is simply when someone has a difficult time seeing things up close. The degree of farsightedness influences your focusing ability. People with severe farsightedness may be able to see only objects a great distance away clearly. Those with mild farsightedness may be able to see objects that are closer clearly.
This condition is usually present at birth and tends to run in families. You can easily correct this condition with eyeglasses or contact lenses. Another treatment option is surgery.
What Is Hyperopia Caused By?
The eye features two parts that help us focus on what we see. These parts are called the cornea and the lens. If your cornea or lens isn’t evenly and smoothly curved, light rays don’t get refracted properly. This is called a refractive error and is the main cause of hyperopia.
Specifically, this type of refractive error is when the eyeball is shorter than normal, or your cornea curvature is too mild. The effect is the opposite of nearsightedness.
What Are the Treatment Options?
Farsightedness can be corrected using LASIK eye surgery. At Paragon Eye Associates, we use the latest technology to ensure that you get the best outcome from this procedure. Additionally, we offer consultations for glasses and contacts if you’re not ready for a surgical procedure. Get in touch to explore our options and find the best one for you.
